How about we have a waiting period on new accounts? Ive started playing like a week and a half ago and i have seen a lot of deadbeat players 100% of them having a score of 1000 and being new players so, how about we have a waiting period of say 1 day or so?

The waiting period will be a sort of evaluation period, instead of being sent your activation e-mail on that day wait for 24 hours then have the site send one, this may ensure people dont just sign up, join 4 games, play for half an hour then leave the site forever. Premium accounts will be activated immediately ofcource.

Too harsh - no newbies would come back ever if they had to wait a day...

A chess site I'm a member on gives you a Provisional score when you first join and you're not entered into the scoreboard or valid for tournies until your rating is fixed (after 20 games).

It might also mean that nobody will join. I reckon most people deadbeat after realizing they can't play Risk RIGHT AWAY after they join. If you said to them, first you have to wait 24 hours, and then you'll get to wait ANOTHER 24 hours, and then you can make a move, hurray!!... then I reckon lack'd be kaput in no time.

Thanks for the suggestion CCTV, but we have a better idea to help new recruits out without restricting them or turning them away.
