Shared Team Continent Bonus

Postby DeadCenter on Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:08 am

Concise description: In team games, allow the continent troop bonus to be shared between teammates as long as one team holds the entire continent.

Specifics: When an entire continent is held by one team, but more than one teammate the continent bonus should be divided equally between the teammates. In scenarios where there are an uneven amount of troops awarded for a continent [e.g. seven troops between two teammates -or- eight troops between three teammates], the total troops rewarded should be rounded down [e.g. a seven troop continent bonus would be divided between two teammates as three extra troops each -and- an eight troop continent bonus would be divided between three teammates as two extra troops each on their respective turns].
[0]Example 0: In the Classic map, two teammates both own two territories in the South American continent [e.g. Teammate1 owns Bogota & Buenos Aires & Teammate2 owns Lima and Sao Paulo]. This continent is worth two troops if held. As the two teammates share a common goal, it seems more appropriate to give each a bonus for holding the continent as a team, but to divide the bonus up equally between them. As the troop bonus in this example is two troops, each teammate gets one troop bonus per turn (on their individual turns).
[1]Example 1: In the Classic map, three teammates hold South America [e.g. Teammate 1 owns Bogota, Teammate2 owns Buenos Aires, & Teammate3 owns Lima & Sao Paulo]. This continent is worth two troops if held. As the three teammates share a common goal it seems appropriate to award them (as mentioned above). However, as the troop bonus in this example is two, and the troop amount is rounded down, each teammate gets zero troops.
[2]Reasoning behind the rounding down: Its not as huge an accomplishment to hold a continent between two teammates as it is for one teammate to hold a continent solo. Still worth reward, but not the same as if one individual held it- thus each player is awarded only half (or less depending on rounding) of the full continent bonus. And in Example1 (of three teammates holding South America and getting zero troops)- its hardly an accomplishment at all for three or more players of the same team to hold one small continent, so they are rewarded appropriately with zero troops. However, for a group of three or more teammates able to hold Asia (worth 7 troops in the Classic map) is a much greater accomplishment comparatively speaking. Thus, in the case of three teammates holding this continent in the Classic map, it rounds down to six & each member is awarded two extra troops.

This will improve the following aspects of the site: If a team can work together to take a continent- that act merits a bonus (even a lesser bonus). It unifies the team, encourages team work, and adds further strategy to team games.

I like this idea. It really helps teams cooperate and it stops you from having to conquer your teamates territories.

I dont know about the rounding down thing. Maybe another solution for that problem

it basicly removes any tactic from the teamgames.
i mean, should i take my buddies land and loose some armys(his and yours) to get a bonus or do i attack the enemy instead and not go for axtra potential dice next turn?

in your suggestion we are back to 1 vs 1 games where the starting player wins more and lucky drops become even more important and likely.. randomizing the outcome based on initial conditions is bad. randomizing the outcome based on real tactics is good.

With this option you'll only have to be worried about the drop bonus. I don't like it.
