Allow Account information for scripts

Concise description:
  • Allow information used for scripts and add-ons to be stored on the CC server for each person's account instead of on the individuals computer.

Specifics:
  • I don't know all of the technical stuff of how this is done, but I am fairly positive it is possible because it already stores which forums you read (i.e. When I read a forum at work, it shows up as read at home also).

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • It will allow users who use multiple computers (like myself) to be able to use all of their add-ons and scripts to their fullest potential.
  • Be able to use snapshots with BOB between work and home.
  • Know when there is new chat with chat sniffer even though you are on a different computer
  • Allow you to have "watched games" that you don't have to update on every computer
  • Probably many more that I don't necessarily use

I don't know the technical stuff either, but your suggestion is überkool.

It's not possible chuckinator, but would be neat :(

Greesemonkeys and all add ons need to be installed into firefox directly, just harass your boss at work to allow for downloads.

That's why this is a request for change. :)

What would be required is an API of sorts that would allow some basic name/value pair info to be stored in CC's databases, so instead of the browser holding the values (bob snapshots, chat values, watched game whatnot) CC would.

Exactly! What she said! Can we make this happen please?

An interesting, and definitely beneficial to an array of users. However, I'm unsure of the performance impact it would have on the servers---especially since we recently just were able to get over the performance hump not too many weeks ago...

I think I'd rather see continued integration of various Bob-esque and other script features into the actual website of Conquer Club.

If there are further plans to include features that are currently scripts ( Watch This Game, Chatsniffer etc) into Conquer club then that will be a great step forward. Otherwise Chuck's suggestion would make life a lot easier for the many of us who do use more than one computer... I have 18 that I use (no joke) :D

But I understand the possible performance factors too, that AndyDufresne mentions.

Still - this is worth discussing...and if it brings more of the "whistles and bells" to the site then it has my full support.

I think this could at least be looked into a little further. I don't think this would tie up much at all as far as performance goes. It already stores pretty much identical information on what forums each user has read. Now I am just asking the script writers to be allowed to "piggy back" in a sense on this so that same area can store what games I have looked at and where I have taken my snapshots, etc.

I think all of this could be set up easily where it could be removed 1 month after a game ends or something.

Just sayin... :P

This would take up more space than you think. Unless you're asking them to allow certain scripts to store certain information, you're basically just opening up space for any script writer to use for any purpose - that could fill up fast. I like Andy's idea of integrating these things into CC itself. I love the idea, I just don't think it's feasible as it stands.

I agree. If they get integrated into the site, great. But I don't see some of them happening for a long time. And yes, I am saying only allow certain trustworthy scripts in (not everyone who wants to write one). Only allow scripts that have proven to be useful to many players and that you know people will benefit from this like the 3 that I have mentioned.

Perhaps scripts that are integrated can go through a process, similar to quenching a map? (it'll be much simpler obviously, but this is just so we can get only top-quality scripts through)

I don't hang out in the suggestions forums too often so I don't know how this works.

Will we actually hear back if this is being considered or not? I am okay with coming up with another solution that solves the problem, but it seems many people in today's world use more than 1 computer so this seems like something that would benefit many by fixing.

In short, no. Suggestions don't get "accepted."

This post implies that this suggestion in particular will never be implemented because it isn't a good idea:

Well it obviously is a great idea that wouldn't hurt the site in any way, and would benefit the many players that use these things and have this problem.

So if that is the case that it would just never again be spoken of because 1 person sees a way they would rather something else be done, then there seems to be no real reason to have a suggestion area on this site.
