Display short text with new game

Postby Grifter on Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:14 pm

Concise description:
  • When creating a new game allow the user to enter a short text greeting to go with the game

Specifics:
  • On the Start a game page add a text input field. The player can enter a short text greeting for the game which is displayed on the Join a game and Game Finder pages. This would apply for non-tournament games only. The field can be left blank
  • Suggest max 140 chars (same as twitter). Can be less.
  • Tournament game currently have such a text. The greeting would be displayed in the same place.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Player can enter text like "New players welcome for training" or "Serious players only" or "Those who want to discuss a topic" or whatever.
  • Used as a way to attract players with similar interests.

Posted just a few weeks ago. Though this is in the format therefore better. I support this wholely, though the issue is people may try and use it as a work-around for the actual speed game if they are freemium. So it'd probably be for premiums only. Though I definitely support it.

Make this feature available to premium members only.

This is a really nice idea, although I think it might work better as a drop box where you can select one of several dozen messages (to prevent abuse).

Perhaps also a set greeting that gets posted in the gamechat as soon as a game begins, although here, you should be able to say whatever you want.

What do you mean, workaround? Are you worried that a freemium will use this to drum up a real-time game? Surely they can already do that through callouts in the live chat.

I think that this is a great idea!

Max, I think that the idea should be used for premiums only, although not for the reason that you are implying.
Ender is correct when he says that freemiums can use the callouts section in the live chat to create real-time games, because I did that very often when I was a freemium member.
I think it should be only for freemiums because it would be just one more thing that would attract members to become a premium member...
Maybe if freemium members had a small list in a drop down box, and premium members had a larger list in a drop down box, as well as a spot to post their own message if they desired.
Just my 2 cents

This just seems like a way to make public games exclusive and/or implement rules that have been rejected.

Except all would still be able to join... And if it was a dropdown box idea, the choices could only be things like:
Friendly players welcomed
New at map
Map veteran

Or something like that... so if you are new at a map, or experienced at it, people will know what they are getting themselves into...
