Public voting on development

Concise description:
  • Many good ideas are generated in this forum, gain general acclaim and acceptance but then seem to wither and die. My suggestion is to hold a popular vote on a group of nominated suggestions, which elects one idea on a regular basis that as a community we want implemented

Specifics:
  • Any idea worthy of consideration must have at least 10 replies to the suggestion thread backing it
  • Those ideas receive an initial technical vetting by the devs. If any would require crazy amounts of time to code or can't happen due to technical limitations then fine, but we need to see a reply explaining that this means having to buy a server 30 times the size of the White House etc.
  • Each quarter, the shortlist of the possible ideas are collated into a list and voting buttons enabled. All Premium members are entitled to vote (as they support the site with their cash).
  • At the end of a week, the most popular idea is the winner and is automatically added to the development list.
  • The idea has to be implemented by the end of the next quarter

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Power to the people!
  • The things that we really really REALLY want fixed have a chance of being picked to actually get done based on our choice not the whimsy of mods or devs :D

Well, I entirely disagree. Not because I'm a freemium but for the sole reason that that is a layer of bureaucracy. Even the map foundry hasn't gone that far. I would agree with a clear to-do priority list that is ordered fully so we know what to expect next. (And therefore) A system which would allow people to discuss the order in which current to-do items are passed but this is just too much...

I have, many times. It's just one of these things though where this would result in Suggestions almost like being a competition and they shouldn't be treated that way.
