New Medal Levels of Achievement beyond Gold, Silver, Bronze

I read a post a while back with players asking for more levels of medals. Currently, there are bronze, silver, and gold. Could you please add TIN and PLATINUM?
Concise description:- I believe a TIN medal at 10 victories within a particular achievement will attract new players to continue playing.
I believe a PLATINUM medal at 800 victories within a particular achievement will entice some current players to continue playing, play more often, and renew premium membership.
Specifics:- Add Tin and Platinum Medals to all achievements.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:- will give a medal quickly to new players, enticing them to continue playing and earning medals
- will entice existing players to play more games and earn more medals. Some players have already achieved gold in all categories
- will potentially see more activity on a daily basis on the site, promoting the possibility of advertising on the site based on the number of users, repeat users, and page views.

Tin or Glass or Quartz or Nickel...whatever you want to call it...as a low level medal could be quite interesting.
If more new players are given a shot at a "prize" I believe they will be more interested in playing. Ranks are nice and all, but they come and go. If you're new and you end up playing other new players (or low ranked players) you might not move upt he ranks very quickly. If, however, after 10 wins a medal pops up on your wall, carrying a certain element of permanence, you might be more interested in earning more medals, playing more games, spending more time on the site.
I might not be the only one, but I should point out that I didn't know squat about medals until I received my first. Once received, I got hooked and started striving for more. It is, after all, a competitive site which naturally attracts competitive people. Competitive people are more likely to be interested in awards, medals, ranks, etc.

Hm, I could see the appeal of an easy to obtain medal to a new player, but I wonder if it would dilute the prestige attached to a medal. I mean, I was proud as hell when I got my first cross-map medal. And to be honest, I kinda felt the ratings medal would act as a sort of medal of the masses sort of thing.

I agree, there is an appeal to the easy to obtain medal. I don't think it would dilute the honor that comes with medals, because a medal represents accomplishment at some level, its not like we would be awarding medals for winning one game.

That's true, but I wonder what the lower limit would be. I've seen from the forums that many new players who leave are the ones who join 4 games, find out they can't play in any one of them, and leave. I don't think they would even get to the 10 games for this medal to be awarded.

just to add to the discussion - how about a medal for good sportsmanship - recognise spirit and players who maintain a 5 rating after a 1000 games or 4.9 after 2500 - anyway just an idea to toss around
and I couldnt see this posted but why isnt there a medal for escalating?

Excellent off-topic post. Please put up your own suggestion!
I'm hoping to see some comments on here about whether Tin Medals should be awarded after accomplishing 10 of each of the medal criterium. Thoughts?

1000 unique defeats on a given map perhaps for platinum
its relatively easy to get bronze so actually I dont see a real need for a tin medal prehaps an encouragement pm would be sufficient with a link to The Society of Cooks for some game hints or training

I see your concerns about the medals perhaps becoming trivial or invaluable if they are awarded "too soon." However, the medals also serve the additional purposes of being an enticement to continue playing and being an aspect of the enjoyment of the site. I certainly wouldn't want to disaffect your enjoyment of the site by letting noobs earn medals that you think are "unearned" or perhaps "devalue" the medals earned by those with gold or (hopefully) platinum levels.
Tin's value is to entice new players to continue playing on the site. Right now, players aren't continuing to play. Take a look at how many users there are versus how man active players exist. The hope here is to get players to continue coming back to the site. If that happens at the expense of players who think that the noobs have medals that they don't deserve, I don't believe that is as big a problem. Would you really leave the site if Tin medals were awarded? When you see Tin Medals on noob's walls, I think you would still realize they are noobs ands perhaps do something to encourage them to keep playing.

hard to get that one all you need is a ideot to come along and give you a 1-1-1 rating and you never get it

OK, the more I think about it, players might not be that thrilled about winning a "Tin" Medal. But I agree with my original idea and purpose and benefits. Can you think of another Metal or Alloy that would be more fitting?

I like Blitz's Diamond. Maybe Sapphire, etc. So you get a blue-gray medal (platinum) and a dark blue one (sapphire).

Just so we're on the same page, Tin is for an acheivement level below Bronze. For the Levels above Gold, I like Platinum because it sticks with the Metal/Alloy theme. Adding Diamond is tough because now you're getting into precious gems.

great idea...the upper ones are completely necessary...but the lower ones though perfucntionary for most of us, may keep a new player or two around theoretically.
The medals are purchased from what I understand though, otherwise Im sure more would be here already.

I don't understand. You mean he pays by medal? I think you buy the mod for medals, and then you can make as many as you want. I know for a fact WidowMakers makes the images.

Personally I would choose Copper, but it could end up looking very similar to Bronze.
