Well greenoaks thanks for your all encompassing analogy. Heres this Americans opinion.

I believe the rank insignia progression is good, works well and is mostly fine as it is. A bar is used for cadets and we don't need any other bars. It would actually cause confusion to some.

What exactly do you mean natty ?
They are real. That is, they are the same as real military, but not designated for the correct ranks.

I have gotten used to them, and do not mind as much anymore, that they are not correct.
The problem is with new players. The ones that have some kind of military background, They find it weird and a little off-putting to see Colonel bird used for a Brig. and a Maj. used for a Louie.
