Speed games aren't destroyed until the maker signs off

Postby Risktaker17 on Sun Nov 04, 2007 6:47 pm

Topic: Now speed games only last 15 minutes why don't they last until the initial maker of the game signs off.

Body: It gets kind of annoying when 5 people join and then waiting for the last the game is wiped away. I think this would be helpful because I make a lot of speed games and it is annoying to have to continuously make games until one starts.

Priority: 3, Its a pretty awesome idea

No it's not. It takes an hour of doing NOTHING to sign off (or click the link), so if I make a speed game, forget about it, and come back 45 minutes later (which I do quite a bit), the speed game filled 20 minutes ago and the first three people that joined just deadbeated because they forgot about it because it took so long to start. Bad idea.

we've discussed basing it on the 5 mins on activity that the forum uses to figure out who's online. it's just a bit complicated to code and has to wait in line on the to-do list.

i would like to get rid of the auto-drop and have people learn to drop out of the games if they leave the computer / website. maybe if we had IM or text message notifications that would be less controversial.

logging folks off automatically when they leave might limit folks who like to do more than one thing on the computer at once and may log/on/off to speed up various process'. Also, I have more than once had someone hit the off button, had temp power outages, etc.

Also, many of us don't have texting capabilities.

it might be worth suggesting this in your instructions.
