New recruit suggestion

Postby AladdinSane on Fri Jul 13, 2007 9:33 am

Perhaps someone has suggested this a while back: how about making it so new recruits can only play against other new recruits? Most deadbeating seems to be by people who register, sign up for games then lose interest and move on...it's really annoying...

I don't know if this is a really fair idea. We were all new recruits once. Part of the reason I kept playing was because I met some real nice people who helped teach me the ropes. Instead of punishing people for being new, they should be welcomed.

I much prefer the mentoring program suggested by another player. So far I'm mentoring one person and its going well. I found out that new people are quick to ask for alliances, because they don't know better. People are not patient with them and they give them negatives for silly things. Once they get a few negatives they can turn into vengeful and nasty players like Bolle.

I think if we can help people at the beginning, especially teaching the ettiquete, we can make a better group of new players and avoid turning new players into monsters.

Why don't you mentor someone yourself?

thsi snt a fair idea. if a group of deadbeat lose intrest then those who had a chance get board and frustrated and then leave.

thanks for the replies. i don't think the 'unfair' claim is itself fair - after all, i'm not suggesting that new players be punished in any way - simply that they play among themselves for their first few games. i don't think thst would unfairly disadvantage them - in fact, since they would be playing other new players it might be to their advantage.
as for mentoring, it sounds good as long as the one being mentored is sincere. i'm talking about the inconsiderate ones who sign up because it doesn't cost them anything, then lose interest and deadbeat their co-players. i only have 15 games to my name so far, so i don't know that i'd be a great mentor just yet...
