stopping deadbeats

Postby Judge Gabranth on Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:25 am

why not ave a counter in the 'my profile' section of each player so it can be checked how often that player has skipped his turn.
it will stop people from skipping turns to their advantage and give people more incentive to not miss a turn, and make it so players can see if they want to play with other players who miss turns often.
the counter could also be visible on the scoreboard so players take more pride in never missing a turn (but not affacting their position)

whilei think this counter is a good idea it might be a bit harsh because some people do miss turns by accident. in the is case the counter or another counter could even count the amount of games the players been kicked out of for missing three turns.
i think that will definatly decrease the amount of time it happens

Already suggested and another Idea use the format. Why not have an idiot post another suggestion that's in the to-do list under unclassified.

Oh wait already happened

there isnt a suggestion like this one in the list at all. the suggestions are actually about stopping the player from getting additional troops not naming and shaming them like i have suggested.

thanks for the creative critisism tho, calling people idiots for having an idea really puts them in their place

i think it has been suggested i have seen it countless times and dont like the idea myself as some people have lives and miss turns occasionally, loads of people did, me more than most, over easter and that would go down as 8 missed turns right away

This could actually be a good idea, but what is considered to be an okay reason to miss a turn, sure, health reasons, connection problems and things of that nature are alright, but this counter idea doesn't dicriminate. If it did, then maybe there would be more support for it, but how do you code the counter to pick up on what is okay and what is not?

yea its a good idea, but people could be lying with false reasons.

perhaps if the counter wasnt there to shame them but just to advise people who like quick games, that the players do occasionaly (even by accident) miss turns.
although this isnt a nice way to deal with the problem because people with real reasons still have the missed turns shown, it would stop me from joining games with people who have missed say 50 turns since they have joined, whether they are real reasons or not

50 turns in a month, sure. 50 turns in 2 years of playing?

A better system is probably just 3 percentages- first, the percentage of games in which they deadbeated out; second, the percentage of games in which they missed one or more turns; and third, the percentage of games they played without any missed turns.

(1) It's a good idea.

(2) It's already been suggested -- by me -- however, I had suggested a Percentage % of Games Deadbeated.

(3) Should totally be implemented.

(4) It would be so easy to add a column next to each name and a space on each profile to list Total # of Missed Turns.

Total number of deadbeat games should be in missed turns out I miss turns once a fortnight because of stuff like my mum kidnapping the computer for her work etc.. Yet I don't deadbeat

Agree this is a good idea. But if you miss 50 goes in 500 games its not so bad as 50 goes in 10 games. So the figure quoted should be a percentage. ie no of missed turns/turns taken * 100. This could be rounded to 1 decimal place so that the odd missed turn out of 1000 would not even register.

Oh, I forget, something between apathy and a tacit nod. Basically, the mods were split between three camps:

Those who felt it a waste of dev time, a burden on server calculation and bandwidth, and a clutter of scoreboard real-estate, for little or no perceived benefit,

Those who thought it was a good idea, but wanted a simple "percentage of total games dropped due to deadbeating",

And Those who spoke not (and therefore, one may assume, felt insufficiently strong about it either way).

Honestly, though, these camps were not really divided; this is an idea whose time most likely will come with whatever major revamp this site gets at some unspecified future time.

Also, understandably, the mods (and the entire community at the time) were a bit dismayed by the dozens upon dozens of suggestions I made shortly after joining CC; but I got all that out of my system now, so everybody's calmed down about all my ideas. :-^
