Usergroup Medals

Postby greenoaks on Wed Feb 16, 2011 1:25 am

General

The usergroup medal will be handed out to players and will encourage players to join usergroups and participate in wars.

Qualifying Challenges

In order to have usergroup game creation privileges, a Usergroup War must be of at least 40 games. This will allow the social groups to custom build any challenge they wish in their negotiations.

However, in order to receive a Usergroup Achievement Medal, the war and players will need to meet ALL of the following criteria:

Wars:

* A War must be of a minimum 41 games, and must have a specific defined process for determining a winner, prior to the start of the War. A random triples neutral game is recommended.
* War restrictions must adhere to the basic restrictions inherently built by clans meaning No Freestyle, No Manual, No Speed
* The game composition must comprise 100% Team Games. Recommended setup is 25% Doubles, 25% Triples, 25% Quadruples and 25% Choice of Team Games
* Usergroup Wars must be fairly negotiated
* Must be considered a reasonably fair War, meaning farming of medals will not be allowed. Any questionable war will be discussed first by the Clan Directors and if any further discussion is needed, the Clan Leader's Association will be consulted.
* A minimum of 10 players must be used.
* A player in both usergroups must declare which group they will represent. No switching of sides is allowed
* Usergroup War thread must be adequately documented to ensure medals are properly given out, primarily game numbers and winner

Players:

* Be on the winning usergroup
* Have played the minimum game requirement (See Example)
* Have a minimum of 1 win

whats the point of having competive clans and non compeative clans? the point of usergroups is to post in a forum not to play games.

...why set up something that is in all essence clan wars then slap a new label sticker on it? Seems...not ok.

I think you should just convert your social usergroup to a clan. :)

I'd rather see newer unique medals, like a Random Map medal, or the new Team Medal idea.

some usergroups were set up to play games. sometimes those usergroups may play games against each other.

because the non-standard challenge i suggested elsewhere is appperently too non-standard to be considered a non-standard challenge.

imo, if something walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it should be fried and served with plum sauce, just like a duck.

The Map Blasters was created to play games, mostly they are internally filled but sometimes they are against a clan that wants to learn some new maps.

Once a Map Blaster has learned a map they cease to play it within the usergroup. Being a competitive clan goes against the group's stated goal of being a n00b. However, the usergroup could be an excellent tool for a competitive clan to trial unfamiliar maps. Offers of enlistment to any unaligned Map Blasters by the competative clan would be encouraged. ;)

It would not be the usual competative challenge because the maps selected are ones the clan/usergroup are uncompetative on but as the other team is also uncompetative on it the game becomes competative. Does that make sense?

I would like to be able to create those games with the ease afforded others on this site. Ideally this would fall under the CD's definition of a non-standard challenge with game creation privs handed out that way and any recognition for success easily dealt with.

This suggestion is not about undermining the competative clanscape, I am merely trying to enhance a social group's value to its members and non-members alike.

mapblasters could easely set up a tournament with all the members being pre invited and another half that can freely sign up. this wold also give the map blasters some fresh players to go against.. or is that not the idea?

No. Just no. You want medals? Join or create a fucking clan. This is a dumb ass idea.

I disagree Andy, I think it would be cool to see the Star Wars geeks fight the Star Trek nerds maybe once per year or something. Although I agree that there are competitive and noncompetitive groups, it still would be interesting to see some of the comparable groups hack at it on the conquerclub field of battle.

You don't seem to understand the concept of Competitive Clans vs Social Usergroups. The whole point of clans is to represent yourself with a large group of people. Therefore you get one clan. The point of Social Usergroups is to discuss topics in your own private forum with other members that share your interests.

I completely understand it. You don't think the Republicans don't ever want to "battle" the Democrats? I seem to know quite a few Star Wars fans who mock the Star Trek fans. Think those two usergroups could ever come to blows (albeit more of a slapfight with tossing of pocket protectors and cursing the opponents' perspectives of non-Euclidean geometry.) but blows nonetheless. How about hte COmmunity College usergroup versus the McGill University group? Certainly one tries to claim precedence over the other in verbal attacks, but what about on the BATTLEFIELD OF CONQUERCLUB.COM????? I say, "Let them play!"

Let them play. I just don't see a need for a medal. You'll just have a ton of players join a bunch of Social usergroups and play challenges to get the 30 medals from Social Clan challenges.

If they all join social groups (if only to get the medals) wouldn't that drive membership and introduce some players to the social groups?

Yeah, then what? They finish getting the 30 medals and never post in the actual clan forum again. Whoopdedoo.

so you think this should be limited to 30 medals :D

i think it would take many years to reach a number like that

i also think an annual Sci-Fi Cup would be interesting - Star Wars vs Trekkies vs Battlestar Galactica
The Annual World Religion Cup - Christianity vs Islam vs Hindu vs .......
Presedential Cup - Republicans vs Democrats vs Tories vs (New) Labour
or a Superior Language Challenge - the Frenchies vs the Dutch vs English speakers, etc

If I'm correct, two groups could host a public tournament against each other, and receive medals in that fashion providing: BOTH of the usergroups are freely open (eg. there isn't a criteria to join), and slots aren't reserved for any current members, simply those who post in the tournament thread first are allowed to play.

However medals for usergroups won't happen. This is the critical difference between usergroups and clans. Clans compete against each other. Usergroups don't.

Rejected.
