73rd suggestion for bonus cards :)

Concise description:
  • A new variant on a familiar theme: Automated deployment of bonus troops once cashing in a set - whether you own the territory or not

Specifics/Details:
  • We all know and love the current sets of extra troops: 3 Reds for 4, 3 Greens for 6, 3 Blues for 8, & one of each for 10. You then pick when to deploy them, and get an automated +2 on any territory you own. Instead, this option will parachute in troops onto the 3 named territories irrespective of whether you own them. If you own them then great it's more troops (but no additional bonus), if you don't, then they auto attack the enemy until death or capture of that region. Numbers of troops when cashing in are:

    3 Reds - 1 paratrooper onto each region,
    3 Greens - 2 paratroopers onto each region,
    3 Blues - 3 paratroopers onto each region
    1R 1G 1B - 4 paratroopers onto each region

    For team games, paratroops would join your team mate's army

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • A fun new variant to simulate the Arnhem drops (probably with the same unfortunate consequences!) which could really open up a game and keep everyone on their toes
  • Mitigates the "domino effect" at the end of a game where the big player can kill off weaker ones, cash their cards and then keep taking out weak enemies, finishing the game far too quickly

The "domino effect" is one of the greatest joys I find when playing large escalating games. Being able to try and guess who's going first and whether the exterminator of that player will win is fun.

As for auto-ing your enemy, I'm not sure. Somewhat indifferent.

I like this, although there are a few questions I still have:

1. If the paratroopers win an auto-assault on an enemy, I assume the territory becomes neutral with however many paratroopers were left. Correct?

2. Will the log say anything about whether they joined or attacked? and if they attacked, who won?

Anyways, I like this idea much better than nuclear spoils. Hope it happens.

Domino effect - I like it also, usually I play standard rather than escalating cards, however this is yet another, different option.

The attack would operate just like if you'd attacked them from an adjacent territory. Any remaining troops left from that "stick" of paratroopers would advance onto that area automatically then stop and await your orders (just like cashing a bonus card now, you can make immediate use of the bonus forces).

The log should show something like "Halmir cashed in bonus cards; paratroopers attacked Region X, Y, Z; Halmir's paratroops captured Region Z" - providing the FoW settings aren't in use.
