tournament pm lists

Postby Super Nova on Sun Sep 19, 2010 7:14 pm

Description:
  • Create a tournament pm list.

Specifics/Details:
  • It's rather annoying to have to type in the name of every player in a tournament when you want to make an announcement that all the players in you tournament need to see, even the ones that are in a dozen tournaments and probably don't check the forum very often. It would be nice if you could have something were you just type all the names in as people join, and then you can select that whole list of people so you can just type the message, instead of trying to type in name after name after name...

This could also be accomplished by the tournament director just adding the players to his/her friends list, and then just pressing the add button on whoever they want to get the message. This however would (I think) be disagreeable to some players.

This idea could also be used for more than tournaments. (Clan announcements? I'm not in one, so if they already have something like this I'm not aware of it)

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This would only require fairly simple programming, and would make running a tournament a lot simpler.

For both clans and tournaments, I often use an Excel list. Then dump into pm and viola...

But if there were something like this on CC, would you use it?

Btw, where did the viola come from? It's got AofG of topic... again.

Save the list of players as a PM Draft, then when you need to PM those players you just go to the list and copy/paste it into the To Box.

I have to admit that I'm actually against this idea. I really wouldn't want to get too many tournament updates in my inbox because I personally think that updates should stay in the forums and there's enough stuff going through my inbox. I feel that if this was put to action then a lot more updates would end up in my inbox because it would be easy for people to use it.

There are several ways to keep players' list (like JP and NS suggested) on and off the site and they are more than enough IMO. Plus, simplest place where to keep your list of players is in the tournament topic :)

The fact that it's easy is the point. If you need to make an update on your tournament, and you want to put it in the forum, there is no real way to make sure all the players know about it, unless you pm them. Btw, I'm speaking from experience here, I'm currently running my first tournament, and when I posted the games in the forum, about 2 of the 34 players actually looked in the forum without me telling them to (in a pm) and found their game. Admittedly, I did not tell the players that was how I was going to post the games. But, if only 2 out of 34 people saw that important of an announcement, who's going to notice the smaller ones that have to be made now and then? (They don't get announced before hand.)

You're right, and if this is not implemented that is what I'll start doing. However, wouldn't it just be simpler to have that function built in to the pm area? It's kind of like an email list, you could have a document that have all the people written down on, but it's much more convenient to have the list built in.
