Remove Ratings If Convicted/Warned For Ratings Abuse

Postby trapyoung on Fri Jul 16, 2010 1:41 pm

Concise description:
  • If an individual is found guilty or warned for ratings abuse, delete ratings left by that individual

Specifics/Details:
  • Remove all ratings left by individual
  • Remove medals associated with ratings and feedback left

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • For players who are the victim of abusive ratings, removing the unjustified rating will improve their overall rating and make them more appealing to other players on the site, etc. (even when they will average out over time, some players peruse ratings and see something like that and take note)
  • While the response function helps mitigate some harm from that, it puts the onus on those being attacked to remedy the situation and might not be read by other players
  • When an individual has abused the rating system, they should not be allowed to gain advantage on the medal system by being awarded a medal based off of ratings which were improperly left
  • If all ratings and medal associated therewith are removed, it might deter more ratings abuse cases in the future

Currently, Ratings follows the '3 strikes' and your out. I.E. a Warning for Ratings Abuse --> a 1 Month Vacation from Rating --> a Permanent Vacation from Rating.

So when would something like this come into effect? At the Permanent level? At each subsequent level (I.E. say they receive a Warning, everything before that disciplinary level is removed, and they start fresh. Should they abuse it again, they'll receive the next disciplinary level, plus a ratings wipe again, to start fresh one more time)?

I didn't know about the three strike system but with a full wipe upon each level of warning it would (1) aid determinations into whether someone has become a recidivist with ratings abuse. I feel like to serve the most good (ie, (2) deter ratings abuse through medal removal and (3) promote truer representation of ratings) the ratings should be removed upon any disciplinary action regarding abuse of the system.

I support removal/deletion upon abuse determination. Kinda like MOD EDIT in some posts due to rule violations. Why leave rating that were judged to be skewed? That way the injured parties are cured and the rating system integrity is better protected.

Actually go a step further with ratings deletion from GUESTED multi accounts too.

agreed.

Though bare in mind, few get convicted of this even if obviously guilty by general consent. And this change will probably mean even more cases thrown at the C&A team. And they frankly have enough to do. I'd rather they focus on filthy multies than those immature, pathetic individuals mentioned here (rating abusers).

Could we remove ratings entirely?
