Sequential First Turn - Tournament Option

Postby Ninja Champion on Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:51 pm

Concise description:

I can see this being shot down almost immediately but figured it has potential. Allow tournament organizers the option to choose either team 1 or team 2 (or player 1 or 2 in a one on one game) to go first in a game. This would only apply to cases where there is one side vs another, ie. no multi team games. Restricted to tournaments only to prevent abuse, but would still have to be monitored closely.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:

-For sequential tournaments a problem I've found is the first turn, depending on the settings can greatly affect the outcome, city mogul being a perfect example, any map with a starting territory count divisible by 3 to a lesser extent.

-All tournaments would need an even number of games to make it fair for the players, such as best of 2,4,6.. etc (although ties would defin. be a possibility)

-My main reason for this, I was in 2vs2 feudal tournament earlier where the first round was best of 21 games, my teammate and I started in 4 of them.. this would balance that out to some degree.

Not sure if I like the idea overall, but this part would be unnecessary: just pick an even number to split between which team starts those games, but let the site randomly pick the starting team for the 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc. game as the tie-breaker.
