Guys, please let me preface by saying that I did not search for a similar suggested idea, nor did I read any forum guidelines here. For this I am sorry, please don't flame me too hard if I am posting irresponsibly. Part of the reason I suppose is denial, that is, I want to pretend that this is an original idea of mine. However, I recognize that it has likely been proposed and may even exist already!
The idea that I'm having is a game player. I can't think of anything comparable in any other situations (perhaps chess games might have them for study; it would make sense), but the idea came to me as this:
For all of you who play online poker, the idea was really sparked just thinking about the hand history thing and how you can download those analysis programs to show you your tendencies and to just archive your play.
Anyway, what I was thinking about was a program that could read and utilize the data generated and saved from completed games. This program would load game data from finished games and allow games to be replayed and watched in quick time. Perhaps the playback speed could be modified. Pause, rewind, fast forward, etc... I can't put my thumb on it, but I just KNOW there is something similar in another game situation. I really want to say Warcraft III or one of the Command and Conquer demo systems.
They would essentially amount to demos that could be posted (generating a community surrounding it) online. I imagine that the data (likely being virtually all text) wouldn't be too large and that it really wouldn't be that difficult for someone who knew exactly what everything would entail. I believe that this would be totally awesome and contribute to the sense of, and quality if, community around here. Several community elements that I envision are:
- Hall of fame & legendary games: these are just famous games that had various qualities, perhaps of close competition, genius strategic moves, notorious suicides, etc...
- Hall of fame & legendary players: A lot of the inner-circle and in-crowd around here know each other and know who the good players are. The good players have a gained a decent bit of noteriety from this, but having their great games watchable could really help to generate some reputations and inspiration for other players.
- Learning tools: Having access to the plays that the best and worst players make will enhance the overall competition and enthusiasm around Conquer Club as people are able to analyze, study, and discuss some of the best/worst moves and game strategies.
- Enhanced Risk Skill: This would be an off-shoot of the learning tools. If persons are able to learn from the best rather than simply their mistakes and watching players they play with, the overall skill of the players around this site will skyrocket and Conquer Club will become the absolute place to be for any aspiring player.
- Discussion topics: The forum community will always have something to talk about as a continuous stream of watchable games are posted and discussed.
Now, I don't code anything at all anymore (I was a computer science student briefly) and wouldn't have the first clue about what information is actually stored or how it might be manipulated, if at all, but on its face, it doesn't seem like it would be terribly difficult to accomplish. I would appreciate any feedback or further discussion and just felt like it would be a great idea an win a lot of support from CC users.
