Suggestion - No game log

Postby NomNom on Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:15 am

I'd like to see an option to start a game with NO game log.

I think this would create a much more fair play field for those of us who do not want to scan through logs or use plug-ins to parse them to help us win. I kind of feel that people that use plug-ins for parsing have an unfair advantage over those that don't use them. In addition scanning/parsing the log negates the use of Fog of War to an extent when someone can use logs to figure out how many territories you have left. I think this would change the way alot of us play our games. Give people on the brink of losing a chance to come back, if no one knows its their last unit, people wont be falling over each other to wipe them out and take their cards.

Help me vote this option into existence. :D

It could be as simple as another radio button during game creation.

If you're going to say no on the poll please leave a reason.

this would be interesting for non-team games, but for team games I think there should be a log for teammates only (to view)

Or maybe it could be called February 2008.

I would never, ever play this option. It would remove strategy from the game. For example, in an escalating game, how would you know whether you wanted to cash early, or wait until you had 5 cards, if you have no idea how much the sets are worth?

That's the Idea grimlock to add an element of randomness that cant be planed for. I admit though this mode would me more geared toward flat rate and no spoils, but it would make escalating games really interesting. I imagine everyone would be watching the card count on the right side of screen near the player names.

Or you could just have a sign underneath the map saying "Next card set cashed in receives XX armies" during escalating games.

I agree, no log would vastly improve FOW games in particular, and is a way I would love to play. And I 100% disagree with people who say it will remove strategy in the game and make it luck. No, you'll just have to play your turns in a different manner. You'll maybe have to start conquering territories in a more scouting manner, to suss out your opponents. You'll have to slowly build your armies and be careful about your moves as a strong enemy may be where you don't expect them to be... you'll be completely blind as to what your opponents are doing (isn't that kind of a bit more like what real war conflicts are like?!).

I don't understand why some people are against the OPTION of having no log. Sure they may never want to play no log games, so don't play them. But to feel so strongly against not wanting to play them that other people shouldn't even have the option for it is a little bit much IMO.
