Postby cena-rules on Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:34 pm

Concise description:
  • allow forum banned members to change their password

Specifics:
  • Currently forum banned members cannot change their password
  • They should have the ability to, otherwise acc sitters will be able to access whenever they choose

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • reduce the risk of hacking

can you show some sort of real world problem this has caused? the banned member can't post, can't post on walls, can't PM other members, and can only join games. so, if the banned member has given his/her password to an untrustworthy person that creates a mass of games and then begins point dumping, that is the only possible negative i can see. however, that can also happen to a member that is not banned. seems to me the solution is for members to be ultimately responsible for their passwords, their accounts, and those that have access to their accounts. please correct me if i'm wrong, but i just don't see the issue this suggestion is attempting to address... and as a former banned member, i kind of thought it was like prison. be grateful for whatever rights the powers that be, do grant you. you know, like still being able to play in games, go to live chat, post in games, and even start games...-0

I tend to agree with what owenshooter has said here. Ultimately, if someone wanted to screw you over while you were banned, they could screw you over while you weren't banned. If you believe someone is hacking your account, even though you can't change your password yourself, I'm quite sure you could still contact a moderator to have them do so.

Actually, it's not hacking if you give someone your password.
Banned members also can't view profiles, send emails via the board or use any phpBB member function.
I agree with both owen and wood, if you've done something to be banned, you shouldn't get any privelages that have been taken away back (also, from my admin experience, this would be very hard to change)

Yes, you're right of course. Rather than saying "hacking", I should have said "misusing". Although theoretically, someone COULD be hacking the account also, I imagine.

Being banned does not limit your access to Live Chat. Therefore, you still have the ability to piss people off, people have the ability to find others passwords by asking users that have it, and then abuse that in mass, completely untraceable. High five for good suggestion.
