- The idea of a battle system other than the Risk one would be fun. Not in replacement but in addition. So you would still have the choice of the system you want to use, depending on the map. The new battle system would still be based on dice, but could integrated different dice value. D4, D8, D10, etc...
- In a battle system like Risk, luck has an enormous impact on the game. How many people writes in the chat log something like
? Pretty sure it happened to all of you..."I lost 22 troops against your 2 troops... Crappy dice." - I never could really figure out the odds of winning or not a fight in the Risk system. All I know is, the more you have the less chance of losing. But what about knowing that if you have, for example, 8 troops: is it worth the chance to attack 5 troops or is it better to stay in a defence mode?
- Every strategic gamer has passed by Risk. But after discovering other more elaborated board games, one seldom returns to it's basic system... And it's no wonder: They want to get rid of the luck factor as much as possible.
Less luck and more strategy
- The new system would give you access to different kind of troops. All of them with a different attack/defence value. Different movement rate.
Unit Categories: land, sea, air and space
Unit Types: tanks, infantries, artillery
Unit Attack Values: submarine vs transporter (the transporter would have little chance of survival) - You would receive Production Points and spend it as you see fit for your situation. The cost of each units would be based on combat value (attack/defence) and mouvement rate.
Units like cavalry would cost more than footman since it would have a higher attack and mouvement value.
A death star would have a very high combat value but no movement value; a x-wing fighter, low combat value, high movement rate. - You would have to make wise choices and sound decisions regarding the enemy situation and map environment
Almost endless possibilities.
- You could customize available troops easily on different maps:
cavalry and milicia for a map like American Civile War
armed guards and unarmed prisoners for Supermax: Prison Riot
death stars, x-wings and space destroyers for Space
barbarians and legionaries for Imperium Romanum
neurons and synapses for 8 Thoughts
vowels and consonants for Crossword - You could have 1 category with 2 different units on one map. Or up to 4 categories with 4 or 5 units available on another map... and everything between.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- It will not completly obliterate luck from the game, but it will atenuate it a lot.
- More strategy
- Less complaints about crappy dice.
- Less frustration
- Less stupid attacks and endless stacking up
- More control over your gameplay
- More variety = Less boredom
