Risk "Awards"?

Postby animorpherv1 on Sun Oct 19, 2008 12:54 pm

I was thinking, does CC give Awards based on actual performance? Things like "Fastest win" or "Best to have as a teammate"? It would definatley get people to play MORE risk, instead of being forum lurkers.

This is How I think it would go:

1. People join Risk game
2. Game starts.
3. Someone does something outsanding
4. Someone else PM's Lack, Andy, Twill, Clapper etc.... about this, and includes game #
5. The Mods collectively dceide on who should win what award.
6. Near the end of the year, A mod makes a thread based on the award "cerimony", and posts a few of the best nominees, and out of those nominees, who wins the award.
7. Award winners get a little something from the Mods, that shows they are good risk players.
8. Everyone feels happy.

Feedback? Comments? Love to hear everything!

We have medals... Isn't that enough? What you're proposing would just be awful and time consuming...

I second this. The suggestion is imperfect in every single step except for #2.

1. This is not "Risk"
3. Outstanding? Firstly, you did not define it well. Secondly, there are no such things as "outstanding" moves, only varying degrees of right ones, and wrong ones. If you do somehow manage to make an "outstanding" move, then it is more likely to be the fault of someone else, and that person using their mistake.
4. So we are going to spam up the mod's in boxes and waste their time now? Convenient for them...
5. This would take forever, and there is no real way to decide by standards. Also, not that many mods are of a very high rank, in fact, most of them are fairly low ranked because they do not spend that much time playing games. I would question the ability of some of them to judge what is good strategy correctly.
6. Once a year? CC is less than 3 years old, and out of the # of people that applied, choosing even half will be impossible. Also, how do you expect them to choose the nominees? Not like they have time to go through the logs and recreate the game.
7. We have something to tell who is a good player, it is called the combination of rank, medals, and statistical plug ins.
8. Hm... Lets see... mods choose a person to win the award out of thousands of nominees and with no guidelines to their decision that could be made (other than possibly that the person won that game). I can't picture anything happy coming out of this, other than the one person who won the award no doubt.

1. This is not "Risk"It's as close as we can get to it, without being sued

Outsanding would be something you think deserves an honour of some sort

4. So we are going to spam up the mod's in boxes and waste their time now? Convenient for them... It's not spam. Spam is bad. This is good.

5. This would take forever, and there is no real way to decide by standards. Also, not that many mods are of a very high rank, in fact, most of them are fairly low ranked because they do not spend that much time playing games. I would question the ability of some of them to judge what is good strategy correctly. It is possible to have a set of standards, even if most mods are low rank.

6. Once a year? CC is less than 3 years old, and out of the # of people that applied, choosing even half will be impossible. Also, how do you expect them to choose the nominees? Not like they have time to go through the logs and recreate the game. It takes maybe, 3 minutes to check a game? Not even.

7. We have something to tell who is a good player, it is called the combination of rank, medals, and statistical plug ins. True, but they don't really give much of a sense of accomplishment. This would.

8. Hm... Lets see... mods choose a person to win the award out of thousands of nominees and with no guidelines to their decision that could be made (other than possibly that the person won that game). I can't picture anything happy coming out of this, other than the one person who won the award no doubt. Not true. I said earlier, mods can make standards. Just filter out the ones that were not met, and sent in by the person who did that. That would eliminate almost half the entires. Then, the mods would only choose 1 or 2 from each category each, lowering it down even further.

Look, this isn't going to happen... There are over 20'000 people on the scoreboard, and I betcha almost every one of them thinks they deserve an award of some sort. Even IF only the first 10 pages (out of almost 100) sent in a single request, at 3 minutes a game, that'd be 125 hours of extremely tedious work. And for what? So we can have a stupid and extremely subjective "awards ceremony" that is near exactly the same as CC's Top 5 Scores and Medals.

Yes. That happens a lot on this site.
animorpherv1 wrote:2. Game starts.

Ditto.
animorpherv1 wrote:3. Someone does something outsanding

Like what? Winning the game?
animorpherv1 wrote:4. Someone else PM's Lack, Andy, Twill, Clapper etc.... about this, and includes game #

They have enough work to do without having to look though hundreds of PMs about these 'outstanding acts'
animorpherv1 wrote:5. The Mods collectively dceide on who should win what award.

I think they could spend their time doing much more beneficial things with the site.
animorpherv1 wrote:6. Near the end of the year, A mod makes a thread based on the award "cerimony", and posts a few of the best nominees, and out of those nominees, who wins the award.

Who wants to wait a year?

Like....a medal?

Um. Yay? \:D/

I think hecter put it best:
hecter wrote:We have medals...

The end. Those make people happy, right? Let's just be grateful we have medals, I think they work just fine ;)

don't the mods have better things to do? like avoid lawsuits and make gameplans for redoing classic and centerscape or w/e?

plus theres that whole clan ladder thing where clans can make their own tournaments thing, making sure the maps that are getting added work right(luckily the xml checker is pretty good at making that efficient), kicking out multis, and keeping the bad boys in the forum banned
