New Scoring System: Scores Calculated By Relative Rank

Postby t-o-m on Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:04 am

Concise description:
  • The winning points at the end of the game are calculated by using their rank on that map.

Specifics/How It will Improve The Site:
Like map rank, you can see your own score on each map. This would be fairer for people and help people see who they are playing. They might be playing Scott-Land on classic and see that he is a feild marshal, looking at the relative rank for the game, see that he is a cook at the map, so he would only lose the same points as the cook.
This would make people play more maps.
The relative score could be shown next to their score on the game finder or the join a game page, and it would make it fairer for people with little experience on a map, without them getting abused on it and farmed for their points (if they were high ranked).
This is a bold suggestion, and i doubt it will get through, but i would like to hear your thoughts.
I dont think i have outlined all that i meant to, but hopefully some discussion will help me remember.

I take it you don't understand what relative rank means - as it has nothing whatsoever to do with what rank you are on a map.

Scott's relative rank for classic is .666. Which means the average rank Scott plays on Classic is something like

3522

Personally I think that's way too high and something is off, or I'm calculating it wrong as well as you. But relative rank means the relative rank your opponent is on classic to what your own rank is. It might take into account what rank you were as you were rising, as Scott was a colonel for a long time around 4 months ago and was playing lots of Brigs and Generals which possibly brought it up.

Fabled, your last paragraph is the crux of the relative rank. chipv calculates this based on the ratio of points gained or lost:
so someone with 1000 points playing a 1v1 against someone else with 1000 points will have a relative rank of 1.000 for that game
someone with 1795 points playing a 1v1 against someone else with 1795 points will also have a relative rank of 1.000 for that game

t-o-m, I am not sure how you would set up a scoreboard based on this information.

t-o-m 's description is of a map rank not relative rank.
