Option For No Time-Limit Games

Postby Gnome de Guerre on Mon May 05, 2008 9:08 pm

Concise description:
  • Enable an option for new games disabling the 24-hour time-limit; nobody will miss a turn for taking longer than 24 hours to begin their turn in selected games.

Specifics:
  • When you are the next player in order to take your turn, you have an infinite amount of time to choose to take your turn.
  • You will still have a one-hour time-limit to finish your turn once you've clicked "Begin Turn".
  • These games are intended for friendly, relaxed, casual games between friends on Conquer Club, and as-such, should be password-protected and/or invite only.
  • There are new options in case someone totally deadbeats (a month goes by without them taking their darned turn).
    • Deadbeat voting begins 192 hours (one week plus one day) after any given player's turn order is reached if said player fails to begin their turn after said eight days. All other participants in the game cast votes whether or not to give one Deadbeat Flag to the missing player. This appears as a pushbutton on the game screen visible to said players when they visit the particular game in question after eight days of inactivity by the tardy player. As soon as a simple majority of participating players have clicked "DEADBEAT", the newly-elected deadbeat's turn is skipped and the next player in order becomes active.
    • If a player is voted deadbeat by majority in three consecutive turns, they are kicked from the game for missing too many turns.
    • You may be given the option to abandon a game that has had zero activity for (choose one) 30, 60 or 90 days; naturally, this causes you to loose points as if you'd been beaten by the victorious player unless the last player (or team) remaining only remains because all other surviving players (or teams) have abandoned the game in this manner.
    • Such games should also provide the option to not count towards points and ratings for these reasons.
  • This may still require that any player be unable to create or join more than one game with the "No-Time-Limit" option enabled.
  • This may still require that the number of concurrently active games that a non-paying "normal" player be allowed to simultaneously participate in be increased from four to five to prevent people from complaining that they "can only play three games cuz the fourth's in permanent deadbeat".
  • Perhaps such games can simply belong to another category outside of "normal" games....

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Gives everyone the opportunity to have their own long-as-hell, been going on two-years strong now even with everyone going on month-long vacations and business trips game for fun.
  • Allows week-long staring contests with the little numbers on the colorful maps.

I, for one would never play this ... it would take far too long. Can you imagine the dataspace necessary? The 24 hour limit at least provides some reason to the number of games a person can play. Even the most basic game in your scheme could take several months.

The only possible way I could even see this working is if one were only allowed to sign up for 1 or 2 games under this option, but even then ... I think it would just be too much... I mean, 2 months to play an 8 player game (if each took a week) ... how could you even begin to follow any train of thought.
