PRIVATE GAMES GOING PUBLIC FLAW

Postby Bolbs on Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:03 am

I’ve had a lot of deadbeater and clowns joining and ruining my triple games recently, and I was really looking forward to the above change.

That would solve the problem as I would simply start a private game, pm a few decent players to join me, and then once I have a full team I wld make it go public.

The only problem with that is....everyone will be doing the same thing and no one will be joining existing games.

Already there is far too many games awaiting players and if you create a new game you can wait several days b4 games actually start. Implementing this wld increase the problem 10 fold.

The only way I can think round it is this. After a game becomes public, the fist person who joins team 2 can make it go private again, and then he can pm some players to join him.

If you can think of any other ways to stop there being too many awaiting games once the above is implemented, or whether you agree, please reply.

Actually - that isn't a bad idea...

So they could make it private with a password of their own creation...

eh seen the calloutforum?
post your game and password there, and people might join it.
but you can first get those you really like to join before going public.
and many games waiting? well thats mostly triples and stuff, they will get deleted when it takes too long, no bother there

It would help clear up lots of the empty triples games if there was some way of merging games... ie If 2 games have the same settings, and both have got 1 complete team with empty spaces, then merge the games into 1...

Yeah that would be good also.

I think the reason why there are so many games created is that it gives ppl the opportunity to drop out if a low ranked opponent or an opponent with loads of neg f/b joins them. You don't get that chance if you're team 2.

I have tried asking for good players to join my games in the callout forum, but cadets have gotten there first. Being in team 2 I end up being stuck with them.

As there is currently no easy way you can stop any of these type of players from joining you (other than go through every member in CC and putting those ones on your ignore list), ppl will continue to create rather than join games so they are able to drop out if necessary.

Private games only partially solve the problem as a lot of ppl don't want to be bothered with all the hassle that goes with it. Getting your own team together is easy enough, but to sort out your opponents team as well sounds like a lot of effort.

After my recent partners I am tempted to start creating rather than joining games as well, as probably others will also. The problem will therefore only increase.

An interesting idea.

One of the things we have planned is to have "team invites" so you can set up teams before you join a game. We just have to work out the nitty-gritty details of it :)

I also like the idea of merging games...start a new thread on it and I'll post some of my ideas ;)

This is way open to abuse. Some jerk goes and joins a bunch of team games, makes them go private and then doesn't send the password out to anybody. So the game just sits there waiting for players until the game dies.

I'm glad you don't like his idea either...

Why would someone do that? Only premium members would be able to make a public game private again so if anyone wanted to waste everyone’s time they would already be doing it.

As I mentioned before, I think the problem with just making private games public is that too many people will create new games and do it and not enough people will be joining existing games.

Are there any other suggestions how this can be resolved?

The game merge thing definitely sound like a goer. Maybe the 1st player to join any game is made the captain of the team, and he could challenge other captains.

MrBenn as it was your idea, do you want to start a new thread on it?

What are you talking about? How would people already be wasting everybodies time? And why would people do that? Well, why would people purposely deadbeat? Or attack their teammates? Or try to be the lowest on the scoreboard? Or the many other things that people have done in the past on CC. People may even do it accidentally. Join a game, make it private meaning to send their teammates the password and then just forget about it.
