Atlas (guide to the maps at CC) [To-Do]

Postby cicero on Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:00 pm

Suggestion Idea:
Add a new Atlas section to the site to guide users through all the maps available.

Specifics:
In addition to "Home | Instructions | Scoreboard | Forum | Rules | Shop | Help" sections there would also be "Atlas".

Divided into several main chapters (I initially include 3 here, but others may think of more.

1) Introduction
2) The Maps
3) Game Elements

The main thrust of my suggestion is in "2) The Maps".

These in turn divided as follows:

2) The Maps
  • Classic
  • Africa
  • Age of Merchants
  • Age of Realms: Magic
  • Age of Realms: Might
  • etc
3) Game Elements
  • attack - standard
  • attack - bombardment
  • attack - ranged
  • fortify - adjacent
  • fortify - chained
  • etc

And on a map page:

first draft map page template wrote:Map Name
Classic

Territories
42

Overview
//a general overview of the map, its continents, bonuses, special territories (one way/bombardment/Alcatraz etc) ...

Tactics
// perhaps ??

Attack types possible:
standard {hyperlinked to the relevant section in chapter 3}

Map quenched
01 Jan 2000

Start a game on Classic {hyperlinked}

- Mapmakers would have to produce such an Atlas entry for their maps before quenching.

Why it is needed:
This is increasingly necessary as the maps and gameplay diverge (try Waterloo) from the closely defined possibilities on the original Classic map.

Thanks to DiM and others for pointing this out.

Doh!!

In my defence it was one of those moments where I got so over-excited that I forgot the cardinal rule of Suggestion Posting: "CHECK [Official] Suggestions Box (Lack's 'To-Do' List) FIRST !!"]

A couple of questions and I'll be on my way.

1) Further to the formalised thread which DiM directs me to, can someone point out the original suggestion thread which, I assume, was it's precursor? If possible I'd like to see the discussion which lead to the current template.

2) [emphasis]This one asked in a friendly non-antagonistic manner[/emphasis]. Further to my forgetting to check Lack's 'To Do' List .... I have now done so. I didn't find it? Am I missing something? Where should I have looked? Any constructive advice appreciated.

3) Rule four in the thread DiM directs me to states Any post that is not an information post will be responded to by PM and deleted. If it is a question I will add it to the FAQ. Is this intended to mean "Don't post anything else!" or "Go ahead, fine, post questions etc - just know that the post won't be kept."

Thanks

Cicero

Basically that thread is for map makers to spit out their info pages - no other posts will be kept - and thus I think this is a "don't post unless you're making an info page"

yeti_c is right, after each map maker updates his info and we have all maps with detailed info that thread will be submitted to lack.
