Archive Sig and Avatar

Postby lalaland on Fri Jan 11, 2008 9:30 pm

Suggestion

Idea: The sig and avatar would be what they were at the time of the original post, and not updated every time the info is changed.

Why: Especially with the ongoing browng-08 nonsense, it would be helpful to know when in time a post was made. It also archives a piece of 'history.' Say lack were to change his avatar. His wonderful ninja turtle would still be in all of his previous post. And CC isn't CC with Andy the monkey hanging around all the time... what if he decides to change it one day? What would we do without that little picture?

a reason nobody will care about: comment on the sig above and comment on the avatar above games will make sense if you read back in the thread

just something to think about, i don't even know if this would be possible with the forum software.

I don't think that it is possible with this version of phpBB...or even the latest...due to the fact that sigs and avatars are dynamic...

Bad idea - think of all the storage space necessary for all that extra crap.

The sig and avatar are held elsewhere - so all that is stored is the post contents... and the sig and av are added at build time...

Adding images into the DB would increase the DB size by a massive proprotion (as they're already compressed - whereas text compresses amazingly well)
