High Rankers who aren't afraid to play with lower ranked

I started a tournament with the idea that high ranked players would be partnered with lower ranked players in an effort to teach and maybe meet/get to know new people.

imagine my shock ( ) that I've only gotten one major and a couple of lieutenants. Where are all the folks with funny little crowns next to their names? King Herpes? Demonfork? Any of you conqueror type folks feel up to a real challenge?

:D

Major is not a high rank anymore... Anyways, most people don't play in tournaments. And most of the people aren't high ranked.
aka. you are hoping for some of a very small population to join you.

Good luck.

I don't mind teaching and helping new playes are you describe but I'm not sure this tournament would allow enough time to absorb what the high rankers are trying to teach. I think it will just lead to a lot of the high rankers pulling out their hair and trying to micomanage games to put them into the best position to win.

I've helped mentor a number of players through the society of the cooks but I like to do so over 10-30 games as opposed to the few we might get in this tournament.

Perhaps that is why you're not getting the players you were expecting to join -- there is just not a lot of draw in risking your points to work with players you don't know.

I'm sure that some wisdom can be passed along no matter how few games are played, but I see your point. The main thing I'm trying to foster some new relationships that might turn into something on going. It's a mixer, an opportunity for people that normally wouldn't talk or play together to do so.

I'm in. My points have a habit of leaving me whether I want them to or not, so it's not a huge leap of faith to play with a random.

See! Now that's the kind of heroism I'm looking for.

I am in, start a tournament thread and take the first 8 players over 1600 and the first 8 players under and then pair them up randomly.

You shouldn't confuse fear with choice. I asked Tiger Woods to play a round of Golf with me.

He refused. I do not think I can post that he was afraid to play against me.

Though he did have some excuse about meeting some chick at a hotel....yeah right tiger!!
