I think that the whole point of this discussion group is talk about Books that we've read.

There should be no limitation for who can discuss what. Gosh if someone wants to discuss Robert Munch books or Gone with the Wind they should allowed.

My vision for this group was that in the forum someone would start a thread with the Topic reading the Book Title they wish to discuss and things can go from there. If you don't like Harry Potter don't read the thread. If you don't like War and Peace don't read the thread.

If theres going to be restrictions on whats discussed that it isn't a discussion group its one person saying "Heres what you can say" and thats defiantly not something I'm interested.

They were in a way 'bumping' the topic which is better than nothing. If we aren't ever going to get our forum we might as well use this thread to discuss books anyway shouldn't we? I mean it has literally been a month since all of this started.

Well, did the leader of the group send an e-ticket that was filled out properly? Because if not they usually get ignored....

On another note, I have a few questions about how this book club will work once it does gets it's own section. Lets say I want to discuss the books 'The Scorpion King', 'Heir Apparent', and two of Stephen King's books, 'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon' and 'The Pet Cemetary'. Who all of those books get their own seperate threads, or just one big one that would be named 'iamkoolerthanu's books' or something similiar.

Also, if each book got their own thread, an I wanted to discuss 'The Artemis Fowl Series', would each of the books get their own thread, or would one series get their own thread?

I think that there could be one sticky where everyone could post their 'wish lists' ie their favorite books.

the other threads can be books or series or authors. its up to whoever makes the thread. If you start a topic on Stephan King others can add their favorite books. or if you just wanted to discuss one book than thats fine. The way the discussion groups/clan fourms work is that its just one area so there couldn't be sub sections.

I know that, but then if I wanted to, I could go about 15 feet behind me and read off a list of 70 books that I have read, 67 of them that I liked, and at least 50 of them that I would want to talk about. And those are just the ones I still have. I can then remember the 100's of other books I read, post them, and then have 100+ topics that are all started by me, with all the books that I ever read and liked very much or disliked very much.

The real question I was trying to ask was, 'Are there limitations on the amount of threads you can start, maybe over a certain period of time?'

I was thinking maybe 5 threads every two days or something, or less, or more, I'm not the leader, I am just blurting out ideas/questions that come to my head.

maybe genre threads?
like horror, sci-fi, fantasy, Y.A., comtemporary lit., poetry...etc.

the problem with that is these damn post-modernists and their genre bending!

I don't really think there's a need for restrictions either, I just wanted something to talk about, and to see what other people people were thinking.

That would work, except there are some people(like me)who can't get a book because A) they don't have enough money or B) their parents won't drive them to the store or the library.

And you also have to remember, there are people who are 14, people who are 12, people who are 23, people who are 45 years old. Everyones reading level is different. And people read at their own pace.


Alright, here's an idea. Instead of restrictions on how many topics you can create per day, there could be a first post guidline or something similiar. This way, it would take longer to post. Example:
Guidlines:
Book Name
Book Author
Book Summary(Without giving away the whole book, something like the back of the book, where it just tells you the general information)
If you liked the book or not
Genre
Your thoughts on the book

Wellllll I do have a crazy suggestion. Since we have so many different options for discussions and so far we havn't recieved a discussion board. We could just make our own. That way we could have different areas for the genres .. authors ... books... members wish lists etc. And things wouldn't get lost.

Yeah, I can do that very simpily, and then just give the leader position to thefatty. Everyone would have to keep the same names they have here, to make it easier for everyone to remember it. Lets give it a few days, and if we still don't get a forum, I will make something on invisionfree.com(unless someone else wants to do it, I really don't care. )

When we get our forum we can have a direct link there. So all people have to do is go to the forums like they would normally and click the link. Its just a tad bit more work to have a whole bunch for organization.

I don't think you should speak/assume for other people.

I'm speaking souly from experience here. When we are giving a forum the leader of the group is not givin any power for keeping the forum tidy. We'd have no organization for the group. it would just be a bunch of random threads. with a couple of stickies. Its up to everyone but I don't really want to be digging through a bunch of threads every day.
