Isn't this game just a big free for all? So what's the point of a clan? :-s

You will notice that game types include doubles, triples, and quads. Many players play team games to become higher ranked because some feel that more skill is involved in coordinating a team. That is one of the benefits of being in a clan.

There are obviously a LOT of clans, and in my experience from other games, most clans are failures and the players quite inactive in clan activities at best. So how does one know whether the clan is worth joining, (What kind of players make the clan?) lest they become a "clan hopper?"

Most clans are pretty well maintained on this site. There are some clans that have been here for a long time, and some that are recently formed. The best advice I can give you, is get to know people on the site a bit before you make a decision. It's always better to join with people you know and trust playing with. Also, if you bought a premium membership, it gives you more of an opportunity to experience more games in a shorter amount of time. This gives you the opportunity to get to know more people, and more game types.

I havn't even gotten to play many games yet, so I think I'll put off the whole clan thing for now. I'm not the kind of player to beg; if someone wants me, they'll have to ask me. :)

1. At some point many players realize the futility of playing for points. I won't explain this now as it takes a bit of time, but you will understand later (unless you are a multi in which case you may already understand). So joining a clan gives people something else to play for, winning clan wars and so on.

2. New players usually don't join clans. It's something mostly for veterans, for the reason I mentioned above, and for the one you mentioned in your last post. So no point rushing to get into a clan, although there are some clans that take new players no doubt.

Being in a clan usually assures that ones partners are dependable in team formats. Most members in most clans are extremely active and most members in the established clans do not clan hop. The group I am involved with has 43 members and of that group at least 40 of us are very active at any one point in time. Most of the "A" class clans have been in existence for two or more years. As to recruitment, established clans have no need to recruit members unless the person they are considering are exceptional. Not to be rude but one in your position, being new, won't be recruited by any of the major clans and as advised before it would be recommended that you try the The Society of the Cooks or seek a mentor to help enhance your skills before you might consider attempting to join a clan.

Being in a clan is easily my favorite part of this site. If it weren't for clan wars and clan games, then I probably wouldn't have renewed my premium again this year.

I'm no multi, but I have learned the futility of trying to play for points. :| I did win my first game today :D but to be fair to my opponent it was a 1 vs. 1 and I took the first turn; he never had a chance. It's frustrating because I'm not sure how to get my rank up unless I start getting points, and if I don't I'll certainly never have to worry about clans. :(

I just wanted to mention that besides being a good source of teams partners, and a way to play for other stakes than just points, a clan is a great way to meet some great and interesting people.

My clan is super tight knit and we are good friends, which makes it fun to play games on CC after the Honeymoon wears off. Accordingly, we don't take random people into our clan, instead, we get to know them over a span of time, and if we are interested in having them join our group we see if they are interested.

Join the cook society, get a premium, and play some games with some people and actually talk to them a little instead of just taking turns. You might find people you like, and they might be in a clan, and you can go from there.

The Society of Cooks? HA! I don't need a mentor, my Rank's already gone up to Corporal. But thanks for all the ideas guys; it seems I am universally considered a NOOB, and no clan wants me anyway, LOL!

I dislike team games anyways. Of the games I've played, it all boiled down to everyone stacking their troops on one player; reducing me to insignificant bystander. I admit playing with nothing but points at stake is quite unfulfilling, but playing team games is even less fun to me.
