Can a country be a part of multiple continents?

I noticed that the way the XML is set up, one could list a country as being a component of several different continents. I'm assuming that would then mean that those continents could never be held by different players at the same time.

Is this something that the system can actually handle? Or would it lead to all sorts of terrible and unpleasant side-effects, due to the way things are implemented internally? (Ignoring for the moment the potential confusion for the players trying to figure out how to read a map like that.)

Yes, a country can be part of several continents. This means that you can have overlapping continents and capital cities.
