Banners for Revamp Maps

I posted this in the British Isles revamp topic the other day, and thought it might merit wider discussion:
MrBenn wrote:How about adding a tag to the current map in play to let people know that it is about to be revamped:

My thought was to add something to the map image to let people know when a map revamp is imminent - perhaps once a revamp is moved to FF? I have to admit that my attempt here took about 2 seconds, and looks rubbish, but hopefully gets across the concept...

something like a foundry stamp would work nicely but there are 2 problems:

1. it doesn't offer people a clickable link to the revamp thread
2. on some maps there's no space to put such a stamp

mmm...as i said we could do that thing that we do when we have maintainence to the forum, but having something on the map would be good,
a common link would be easier i.e. not "http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/posting.php?mode=quote&f=127&p=1269070"

if we could do something like "www.conquerclub.com/revamp"
and that could show all the maps that are having/had revamps??

just a few thoughts

Good idea. It would keep people from freaking out when their favorite map up and changes on them one day. Maybe if the map information project ever takes off, that would be a suitable place for such an announcement. I don't think a stamp will ever fly here though. Good suggestion though.

ahh
maybe we could have a tab on the side, like we have join a game, my games, start game, finder, chat, inbox, feed...so on so on..

we could have a revamp tab?
and then if the people of CC ever revolt again, we can say "did you check the tab?"
or like the Inbox has [1 New], Revamp could have [1 New Revamp]

again just a thought?

We've got an idea in the works that may help with this problem, and may get more people into the Foundry, from outside (additionally helping other website areas also) ...stay tuned while we figure out the details.

make an alert like the one lack makes to warn of downtimes on games that are being revamped and have a link "click to hide this alert" or something so they can be warned but still get rid of the warning if they dont want it. and also you can provide links to the revamp this way

i strongly oppose this. i don't want one or more banners hanging on my games page for 1-4 months.
however i think there could be something more subtle like adding 1 tab in the interaction menu below "My feedback". something called "Coming Soon" and when people click there they can see a list of maps that reached final forge with a short description and a thumbnail and of course a link to the thread.

IM BEING IGNORED!

thats why theres a "click to hide" it could save that settings so whenever you open that map again it stays hidden and only the maps with revamps in production will have a banner. i mean it could be as simple as one line above the map

"This map has a revamp being discussed, want to have a say? Click here. If you dont want to see this anymore click here"

if you were to put that above the map during a game it would take up hardly any space and who knows maybe people will notice it

well...its only one more, and maybe the script could be altered for the BOB and Clickable tabs so that it is a drop down menu - so it is only one tab for each BOB and the clicky maps, then there would be less tabs for ya?

if it is done as a tab, people will just say they don't go into that tab so how should they know their favourite map was under review.

i like the line above any map with a revamp saying "click here to view revamp, click here to remove this line". this way every person who plays the map will know about it. anyone who says they didn't know does not play the map.

bob is already a drop down! and so is clickable maps! i really dont think the tab would work because when would you change it? when does it get a new revamp? whenever a new map is posted? thats kinda hard so maybe whenever a new post is made? thats horrible. when a new thread is made? blah.

the way i suggested is easily done by lack once the revamp has official support and the go ahead to do it

and thanks greenoaks

lol soz i dont really use em

i think that the [1 new] sign should be [1new] when there is a thread for the revamp - and thats not very often, so you cant go saying thats horrible when it only happens rarely,
people would see the 1new sign and click on it as they would do with their inbox
andway its not upto us its upto lack and ppl

then it only shows up once is what your saying, or at least stays there until people look at it then its gone. my way it is still there unless you want to hide it and even then we can have very small print link to bring it back

of course it would stay until you look, it would be stupid to not do that!
im saying that it should be like yout inbox, but just stay there until you look,
anyway not our decision

i think lack would like to keep things as consistent as possible to everyone, plus its less work if he only has to do one thing
