How often do you work on your map?

Postby wcaclimbing on Mon Mar 24, 2008 8:18 pm

The question is the title.
How often do you work on a map you are making?
(for those with multiple maps, pick one and answer how often you do that one.)

I am just curious, because I only work on mine about once, maybe twice, a week (that means one update about every week). Should I try and work on it more often, or is once a week about normal for the rest of the foundry?

5-6 days when I have time.

Sometimes for 15 minutes to post an update with text or something.
And sometimes for 3-4 hours to do an overall or major update.

I work in fits and spurts - I'll let something sit for two or three weeks, then work on it for three or four days in a row when I get the time/inspiration.

it depends on the staage your map is in.

i generally like to start the thread when the map is already very developed so i can safely say most of the work is done even before the map is made public. in that stage i work depending on free time and inspiration. if i have the idea properly thought out in my head and i'm in a creative mood i can create a fresh map in a matter of hours. if not i can tinker on it for weeks until i get something to post.

after the thread is started it depends on the feedback i get and the free time i have. sometimes i've put 4-5 updates in a matter of hours from the start of the thread, sometimes it takes 1-2 weeks before i put another update.

in my opinion it would be perfect to put an update as soon as somebody makes a comment. if you have the free time to do this then the process runs smoothly. take AoR: Magic for example, it took only 15 days to get quenched. yes it was part 2 of a trilogy and it had a good starting image but i also made it in a period when i had a lot of free time and managed to churn out a lot of updates and got a lot of feedback.

3-4 days a week because my workload catches up with me often. Else I'd do it 5-6 days. And I tend to exclude one map in favor of another in some cases (yes, I AM going to get some significant work done on Trench Warfare, but The Citadel needs some touchups first).

for me it almost totally depends on what comments I get.

you could be all rearing to go, but no comments or lack of meaningful comments can stifle development.

also, outside responsibilities are a big factor.

so, it depends.

Comments are a big factor.

I tend to discuss it every day with my partner, but for actual map work, every other day or so, about 5 days a week I would say. Currently, waiting for my partner to have his macbook arrive (tomorrow or so), where he will be able to use Photoshop much easier <_<
