i think the staff and allot of high ranked payers, would like ALL players to play exactly the same with the same strategy and outcome and they feel anyone who plays for any different reasons then them are stupid and that they are breaking "unwritten rules" and deserve to be banned or shunned ...

I do like Flat and no cards for variety but I just find the "end game" too difficult. They all too often just turn into stalemates. At some point you have to take on 2 or more players at once to win a standard game which I find almost impossible to do without escalating cards.

Meh. I'm not saying taht escalating games require no strategy, it's just such a different strategy that I'm used to playing. I hate escalating games BECAUSE of the required strategy. I can't wrap my head around it

Those that dismiss escalating as a mostly luck based game probably don't understand the strategies behind it. I don't think it is being offensive to point this out.

Escalating does seem like a high luck game and a bit random in Public games because it is. In those games players don't know what they are doing and are handing the game to someone else.

In games that have an element of chance in them you have got to learn to deal with runs of bad luck. They will happen for as long as you play the game. It's an easy thing to say but it is a very hard thing to do!

I wouldn't mind the high bonuses if you had to fight to get them first. A high bonus map would probably make the game better to play, but when some players get 11-12 reinforcements at the start while others get 3-4 it just makes the luck of the drop too important.

Oh and the plane bonuses stack ...

I have to agree with some of the other comments made here about the bonus's. They are too generous and easy to attain from the start.

I have played 2 games on this map so far. One a six player standard and the other a 5 player standard and in both games there have been players deploying 10-11 ...

Actually I would be against Pearl for a different reason. The easy to attain and very generous bonus's that the first player is sure to have on his opening turn would make going first an almost certain victory.

Those graphs are just 1 snapshot in time. Although the theories being offered as to why there seems to be a barrier at 2100-2200 are interesting we really can't read much into it without further samples over time.
